Timeline
1975-1984 — The Pioneer Years and the Pursuit of Growth
Every great story begins with a bold decision. Metasa's began on December 30, 1975, when Antônio Roso, Ari Roso and a group of local business owners and investors came together to create a factory specializing in metal window and door frames. That is how Metalúrgica Arcovila S/A was born in Marau. The choice of path was no accident: steel was emerging as the material of the future, and Brazil was seeing booming demand for metal components.
In September 1977, with only 16 employees, the factory came to life, dedicated to producing window frames and fire doors. More than an industry, it became the heart of the community: around it grew a housing area that expanded into three neighborhoods, welcoming workers and their families. Between 1978 and 1979, the horizon broadened with the move into manufacturing steel structures for warehouses.
In 1979, the bankruptcy of a major client plunged the company into a severe financial crisis, a true test of resilience and determination. To mark a new era of renewal, in 1980 the company was renamed "Metasa Metalúrgica Arcovila".
1985-1994 — The Turning Point and the Shopping Mall Era
1986 - Varig Hangar - Porto Alegre/RS.
The period from 1985 to 1986 was a turning point for Metasa, as it won and built the Varig maintenance hangar in Porto Alegre, a highly significant project. In 1986, the company changed its name for the second time, adopting the name Metasa S.A Indústria Metalúrgica.
The late 1980s marked the beginning of the Shopping Mall Era, with Metasa standing out as a supplier of structures for large shopping centers such as Iguatemi, Lindoia and Mueller, diversifying and consolidating its operations. International expansion began in 1990, with the company working on projects in Uruguay and Argentina. Another milestone was the opening of Shopping Praia de Belas in October 1991, a technical and financial achievement amid a period of crisis.
1995-1999 — Quality Certification, New Divisions and Challenges
1997 - Metasa Divisão Agrícola (Agricultural Division) is founded in Passo Fundo/RS.
In 1995, Metasa implemented the Total Quality Management (TQM) Program, demonstrating its commitment to excellence. Two years later, in 1997, it founded Metasa Divisão Agrícola in Passo Fundo/RS.
That same year, it renovated the Porto Alegre Public Market, using 280 metric tons of steel structures.
Recognition of Antônio Roso began in 1998, when he received the Homem do Aço title, the same year Metasa also played a significant role at the Triunfo Petrochemical Complex (COPESUL), supplying 5,500 metric tons.
The late 1990s and early 2000s were marked by important certifications and projects. In 1999, Metasa obtained ISO 9001 certification and, between 1999 and 2001, took part in building the Ford plant in Camaçari-BA.
2000-2004 — New Unit and Recognition
In 2000, Antônio Roso was awarded the Mérito Industrial do RS. The company continued to innovate, becoming in 2002 the first in its sector in Brazil to obtain the new ISO 9001 certification, the 2000 version.
In São Paulo, that same year, Metasa was responsible for erecting the steel structure of the “Fura Fila”, an 8 km elevated public transportation corridor. The project's logistical complexity required part of it to be fabricated at a rented plant in Santo André, while the rest came from Marau.
The successful logistics experience led to a permanent base and, the following year, in 2003, Metasa set up its own Industrial Unit in Santo André/SP. In 2004, the "Prêmio Distinção Indústria" (FIERGS/CIERGS) crowned another stage of achievements.
2005-2009 — Expansion and Certifications
In February 2005, Metasa Agrícola was sold to the French group Kuhn. Between 2005 and 2006, the company entered the Oil and Gas sector, supplying Petrobras's PRA-1 platform. Success was immediate and opened the door to a series of major projects, with Metasa taking part in the construction of several platforms.
To better meet this new and growing national demand, a sales office was opened in São Paulo in December 2007. That same year, its commitment to sustainability was recognized with the "Consumidora Responsável de Energia Elétrica" (Responsible Electricity Consumer) certification from Electra Energy.
In 2009, Metasa implemented its Integrated Management System (IMS). And social responsibility found its music: the SESI Metasa Orchestra was born.
2010 - 2017 — New Unit and Transition
In 2012, the company announced investment in a new industrial plant in Charqueadas/RS, which opened in 2014.
In 2013, it reached 11th place in the "500 Grandes da Construção" ranking, as well as prominent positions in the "500 Maiores do Sul" and "100 Maiores do RS" rankings. The period ended in 2014, with Codeme taking over Metasa's controlling interest.
In 2015, Metasa received the "Empresa Renovável" certification (Ludfor Energia), a reflection of its ongoing commitment to sustainability.
2018-2025 — Challenges, Recovery and the 50th Anniversary Celebration
On February 19, 2018, the Roso family and founding shareholders regained full control of Metasa, at which time Felipe Roso took over as Sales Director. That same year, Antônio Roso was awarded the Medalha do Mérito Farroupilha.
In 2022, Cristhine Fuga Roso Daniel became CEO of Metasa, opening a new chapter in the company's history. At the helm of the organization, the new CEO has led the business with a focus on innovation, sustainable growth and the continuity of a legacy built over decades.
In December 2025, Metasa celebrated 50 years of history, a milestone marked by receiving the Excellence in Sustainable Metal Structures Award at the EWI Global Awards in Switzerland, reinforcing its track record of excellence, innovation and institutional strength.
