From Marau to the World: Metasa Supplies Structures for the Planet's Largest Recovery Boiler

A 50-year-old company from Rio Grande do Sul is supplying more than 15,500 metric tons of steel structures to the Arauco Sucuriú Project in Mato Grosso do Sul. The project will be the largest pulp mill in the world.
From the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, more precisely from Marau, come steel structures that carry historic weight. With five decades of experience in steel structures for major projects, Metasa has taken on one of the greatest challenges in its history: building the world's largest recovery boiler for the Arauco Sucuriú Project in Inocência (MS), for client Valmet.
Once completed, Arauco's project will be the largest pulp mill in the world. The facility will be able to produce 3.5 million metric tons of short-fiber pulp per year, with operations scheduled to begin by the end of 2027. The project represents an investment of US$4.6 billion (about R$25 billion) on a 3,500-hectare industrial site.
Erection of the recovery boiler began in September 2025, with approximately 11,000 metric tons of steel structures supplied by Metasa. By the end of the project, the company will have delivered more than 15,500 metric tons of steel structures. Sales Director Felipe Roso explains that “our participation in this project covers not only the Recovery Boiler, but also the Power Boiler, Fiber Line, Drying Line and Woodyard. We produced more than a thousand metric tons per month to deliver our share of this project, which is a great source of pride.”
For Metasa CEO Cristhine Fuga Roso, taking part in the Arauco Sucuriú Project is a source of pride for the entire company:
"We are talking about a highly significant project that demands excellence, technical capability and, above all, a commitment to delivering structures that contribute to the success of an operation of this scale. For us, every project is an opportunity to put into practice what is part of Metasa's DNA: engineering, quality, safety and people working together to turn great challenges into results."
The boiler building will be approximately 100 meters high and will house what will become a global benchmark in innovation, technology and sustainability. For a project of this size, Metasa produced Top Beams (main beams located at the top of the structure) weighing about 204 metric tons at its headquarters in Marau and sent the pieces to its second unit, in Charqueadas (RS), where the structures were assembled and shipped to the construction site in Mato Grosso do Sul.
With this project, Metasa reaffirms its leadership in the steel structures segment and reinforces its commitment to quality, to its clients' trust and to Brazil's development.
