Metasa Begins Fabricating the “Top Beams”
Published on

Metasa has begun fabricating the “top beams” for the boiler that will be part of Finnish company UPM's eucalyptus pulp mill, under the Taurus project in Paso de los Toros, Uruguay. The beams will be lifted into place at a height of 95.5 meters and are essential to the plant's operation, as they support the project's recovery boiler.
The scope of supply contracted by UPM from Metasa covers approximately 8,000 metric tons, including three “top beams,” the largest of which is made up of 3 parts to allow it to be transported to Uruguay. Once assembled, this piece will be 31.3 meters long and 6.5 meters high, weighing a total of 261.3 metric tons.
The know-how to fabricate and handle the logistics of structures of this size and complexity is undoubtedly a competitive advantage that places Metasa among the largest and most qualified steel structure companies in the world.
